Art is imitating life for Jay-Z, who famously rapped, “Billie Jean in his prime. For the thousandth time, the kid ain’t mine.”

Beyoncé’s husband has scored a legal victory with the recent dismissal of the paternity suit against him, marking the end of a legal saga that spanned nearly a decade. As previously reported, the case was brought by Rymir Satterthwaite, who claimed that Jay-Z was his biological father and that Jay-Z’s alleged relationship with Rymir’s late mother, Wanda Satterthwaite, in the 1990s led to his birth. Early filings date back to 2015, when a New Jersey lawsuit was dismissed due to jurisdictional issues, followed by further filings in subsequent years.

PageSix reports that in the more recent proceedings, Rymir, via his legal guardian and paralegal Lillie Coley, filed a federal complaint seeking damages for reputational and emotional distress, rather than a claim for back child support. The suit alleged that Jay-Z, who did not take a paternity test, had committed “fraud upon multiple courts,” misrepresented facts, and exploited legal procedures to avoid scrutiny. Jay-Z’s attorneys consistently labeled the repeated paternity claims as baseless harassment, pointing out that prior courts had already rejected similar filings.

PageSix notes that the dismissal came via a ruling in California that the case was dismissed with prejudice, meaning it cannot be re-filed. This is significant because it establishes a permanent legal resolution to the matter. No further suits can be brought on the same claim. The court’s decision effectively validates Jay-Z’s long-standing denials of the claims.

Meanwhile, Complex reports that in a companion department, the court also blocked Rymir’s guardian’s request for a temporary restraining order against Jay-Z, in connection with motions filed by Jay-Z’s team seeking sanctions against her for what his legal team called decades-long harassment.

Fans and critics have offered mixed reactions. On one hand, many see this as a vindication for Jay-Z. After years of litigation, a high-profile dismissal reinforces his public image and lets him put the matter behind him. On the other hand, some commentators note the case raises questions about access to justice, the limits of paternity claims against celebrities decades later, and the emotional complexity for all involved. From the fan perspective, social media threads show relief among Jay-Z’s core supporters who felt the allegations were unfounded. Meanwhile, others express sympathy for Rymir’s persistence and the personal toll the litigation must have taken.

From critics, the outcome is seen as yet another example of how high-net-worth individuals can successfully defend against protracted claims. Still, it is also a reminder of the toll that legal systems can impose on less well-resourced claimants. Overall, the dismissal draws a line under this chapter, but not without prompting broader reflection on celebrity, legacy, and claims of parentage in the public eye.
