Roommates, it’s been six months since the death of 21-year-old Dreasjon ” Sean” Reed. If you recall, Sean live-streamed the high-speed chase with him and Indianapolis Metropolitan Police on Facebook moments before he was fatally shot and killed on May 6th.
A grand jury decided today that former Indianapolis Metropolitan Police officer, Dejoure Mercer, will not face any criminal charges in Sean’s death. Special Prosecutor Rosemary Khoury, who was appointed to oversee the criminal investigation, said the grand jury determined that there wasn’t enough probable cause to charge the officer, according to the Indy Star.
Rosemary said, “This [investigation] has not been an easy task, and it’s been a very heavy burden. I am also very empathetic toward Officer Mercer. I know that had to be a difficult position to be in. No one wins.”
Rosemary believes that the grand jury, which was made up of six jurors, were the “best and final indicator” of an investigation. She continued saying, ”I have to believe that justice was done because I trust our system, our judicial system.”
In this case, the evidence did not have to be made public with a grand jury, which meant witnesses could come forward with statements anonymously. However, the prosecutor can prevent any evidence from being made available to the public.
Let’s continue to keep Sean’s family in prayer during this difficult time.
