DVBBS is ready to take over the music industry and the whole entertainment world. Their new single, “Breathe,” drops on Friday, September 29, and marks a new era for the electronic DJ duo. Their indie record label, KANARY, is set to launch soon, and one of the artists signed to the label is featured on the single. DVBBS and Jesse Jo Stark are ready to dominate the charts with their new festival hit.
Alex and Christopher Van Den Hoef, the brothers behind DVBBS and KANARY, always knew they wanted to make music. After starting a band at 12, the two began writing and performing music together. Ten years ago, DVBBS became a reality. The duo achieved major milestones, creating tracks with huge artists like Tiësto, Major Lazer, 2 Chainz, Wiz Khalifa, and Blackbear. They also won several awards, including the Electronic/Dance Artists/Group or Duo of the Year at the 2021 Canadian Music Week – Indie Awards. DVBBS has played over one thousand headline shows and festivals in over seventy countries, including Tomorrowland, Lollapalooza, and Ultra. Even with all these accomplishments, DVBBS felt that it was time to work on something new: their own record label.
KANARY is the Van Den Hoef brothers’ new indie record label that they worked tirelessly to launch. They already signed several talented artists and are excited to build a real, raw movement from the ground up. As DJs who began their careers with no experience in the entertainment industry, the brothers faced many challenges trying to break into the music scene. They found that the music industry is full of gatekeepers and obstacles that were ultimately distractions from what they love to do: making music. Part of their goal with KANARY is to put the excitement and raw energy of making music back into up-and-coming artists. One of the first artists they signed was Jesse Jo Stark, who is featured on their new single, “Breathe.”
Stark has been making music on her own since 2014, when she released her first EP titled Down on Your Drain. DVBBS expressed excitement about signing Stark, saying, “She’s one of the dopest upcoming acts with a voice and presence that will take you down a full journey into her world of melody, fashion, and rock ‘n roll, and let me tell you, her world is like nothing that you have experienced before.” Fashion is going to be a big part of the KANARY label. DVBBS has plans to create fashion and multimedia divisions of the label alongside recording and publishing. They see 2024 as the year that KANARY will take over the industry.
DVBBS’ passion for creating music is what made them prominent figures in the DJ and music scene. They do not see the value in following trends and are always swimming against the current. Music is art, and creating it is healing. This is the ethos the Van Den Hoefs bring to KANARY and the artists they sign. DVBBS looks forward to making more music, performing on more global stages, and expanding KANARY over the next decade. Their takeover is coming, and you won’t want to miss it.
